We all know to clean the dryer lint-holder out after every load, but what do you do with that dryer lint? Most just toss it away. Did you know that there are many other uses for it? Here's just a few:
- Place dryer lint (and any other odds and end string, yarn, etc) into a mesh onion bag. Tie it shut and hang from the nearest tree. The birds will come along and take what they need to build nests.
- Use natural fiber dryer lint for hamster and guinea pig nesting material. (Make sure it's natural fiber so your pet doesn't get sick)
- Stuff empty toilet paper rolls with the dryer lint and use as kindling. The lint is highly flammable and will get your campfire going in no time!
- Use the dryer lint instead of lighter fluid to get the charcoal on your grill going.
- Make clay for craft projects (recipes can be found online).
- Line plant pots with dryer lint before your put in soil to help with drainage. It will keep the soil in the pot, but let the water flow out.
- Use the lint as mulch for your potted plants (indoor or out).
Please remember that dryer lint is very, very flammable and should NOT be used to stuff pillows, stuffed animals, etc. Why not keep an old coffee can or bag next to the dryer to save all of your lint for some of these fun and frugal projects?
